- In Michigan, an Appeal Court decides that the cost benefit analysis done by the utility at the time of review by the Public Utility Commission did not consider the health, safety and privacy concerns of the public. Also, the utility must explain why imposing an opt out fee is not requiring double payment – payment for the smeter through fee increases as well as fees to not have one. Strong support shown for those who are resisting having a $meter based on health, safety and privacy.
“On remand, the PSC should clarify the purpose and nature of the opt-out tariff by addressing whether the tariff represents a reimbursement for costs of service, or whether the tariff constitutes something more akin to a tax, sanction, or penalty imposed upon customers who choose to opt out of the AMI program.”
Note: those opting out can keep their analogs for $69 up front and $9.72 a month.
- A very interesting article (which the goal of introducing concept of independent electricity generation), with info about the vulnerability of the grid and the ramifications of its failing. Quite a bit on smart meters and the fact that money is being spent on the wrong things. The electrical grid is old and vulnerable – the money could have and should have been better spent on upgrading the infrastructure. Our old meters worked well, were safe and reliable.

- A member tried to sign up for the Power Smart Challenge, as he has done before, only to be told he couldn’t because he doesn’t have a $$meter. The Hydro response is attached. It is unnecessary to have a $$meter to save electricity, so why the discrimination? This is one more obvious way to “encourage” people to accept this health-endangering fire hazard. There will be more.
- It seems that Fortis’s billing system is as poor as BCHydro’s and Hydro One (Ontario). There is a Facebook group formed to fight this https://www.facebook.com/groups/564673563601380/?multi_permalinks=788495001219234%2C787706697964731%2C789121564489911¬if_t=group_highlight It would be good to find out if these problems are associated with smeters. For many Hydro customers the increases began after they were smetered. If you join, would you please find out?

- Penticton handles electrical and water metering. A member advised that the charges for those who have opted out of having $$mart meters, the cost per manual read is $11 for water meters and $13 for both electricity and water meters being read at the same time, just 20% of what Hydro is charging to read a legacy meter.
- A member generously shared many of the links from updates for dangers from RF/smart meters that he gathered, and shortened the URLs. His list is below in “letters” . To that list I’ve added 2: http://www.bioinitiative.org/ and an amazing resource that has more links to reports and studies than any other place I know of — there really are too many to count: http://www.oscillatorium.com/
