2014-12-02 Tragic fire in Nanaimo. We must be told the truth.

1 – Some of you have asked if Fortis is planning on installing “stupid” gas meters. Fortis has been approved to install $$meters for their electrical customers, of which there are about 150,000 in the interior of BC,  but so far there has been no information provided about plans for gas $$meters. I have been told by BCUC that Fortis would have to apply to and be approved by BCUC should they wish to implement this program for gas meters – and if I get word of this, I will alert everyone immediately.

2 – Sadly a 7 year old boy died in a fire that occurred on Nov. 30 in Nanaimo. The cause has yet to be reported, but you can be sure I will obtain reports as soon as they are available – supposed to be available within a couple of weeks, but it could take longer to get a coroner’s report. There is no indication of any smeter involvement – but the fact is that it’s time for all electrical fires to be examined, and for an open independent examination into the fires caused by $meters and of the $meters themselves, with all their design flaws.
The truth is that in many cases the ignition will be listed as “electrical, arcing” but the cause will be given as “undetermined.”  Many of these could be smeter fires, but with the meter being destroyed in the fire the reason for the meter failure cannot be determined. See below in letters where a member has recommended a letter writing campaign drawing attention to the fact that this could be a smeter-related fire and we might never know. Could the previous electrical problems have been caused by or exacerbated by the $$meter?

We deserve a full, open and independent investigation into the meter failures and fires – not a flat lie, denying that there has ever been a failure or fire in BC. We have been lied to so often by Hydro and this govt that we cannot trust anything they say, or that they order the agencies to say. Please get involved. Write to your MLA, Adrian Dix, John Horgan, Bill Bennett, to JAG. Minister (Attorney General responsible for fire reporting) etc. and to the media. Lists of contacts are on our website www.stopsmartmetersbc.com.

Questions that need to be asked and answered:

  1. Was there a $$meter on this building? If so
  2. Is there evidence that it contributed to damaging the wiring?
  3. Was the $$meter available for the fire inspector to examine, or was it, like others, removed by Hydro before any examination could take place?

3 – People in Michigan are fighting having to accept a smeter from what seems to be a monopoly, like BC Hydro. People are suffering health problems linked to them.

4 – A  youtube of an excellent presentation by world-renowned researcher, Dr. Martin Pall, in Oslo, Norway, in October, 2014.
“Pall shows us how, with an increasing preponderance of so-called ‘smart’ meters, ‘smart’ phones and other microwave-emitting technologies and infrastructure, the health of the public is in danger; that our young are the most at risk and that urgent action to protect people is now required. “

Subject: Faulty wiring alleged prior to fire that killed Nanaimo boy, 7 –

They do not say in the article it was a smart meter and to be fair it may not have been.  I note the lights acted in the same way that as I recall another fire in Nanaimo reported.  It is important to recognize  the fire may truly have nothing to do with a smart meter At a minimum the possibility reacquires a full and open investigation and the death itself I assume will trigger a coroners investigation.

My suggestion is a full letter writing campaign to newspapers.

Subject: FW: update 2014-11-30 SMART METER FIRE incidents reported to Bennett

Good morning Michelle, this is my second email to you  as my representative in the provincial legislature, and I am even more concerned now because I did not hear back from the first one. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ ALL OF THIS EMAIL & ATTACHMENTS.  Any comments you have re same would be thankfully received.

I wonder what if anything is being done to address our concerns regarding the “smart” meter issue?

What have you personally been doing about it?

There are many things that are very concerning to me, the fact that prior to BC Hydro going ahead with this program policies were put into place to “hamstring” the BCUC is a travesty of democracy, it seems more like a “totalitarian state”.

Please will you tell me where is the governmental  accountability to the people regarding this whole issue?

Concerns are brought to others in the BC Legislative Parliament and it doesn’t seem to be acknowledged that perhaps more investigation re the health & safety of smart meters. What is truly behind this decision?

I remember when X-Rays were considered the most wonderful thing use re health, even the shoe stores had machines on hand to check the fit of children’s shoes. I remember being fascinated to put my feet into the slots and seeing my feet inside my shoes. Many times I would stop in and look at my feet just for my own entertainment, I wonder if that did some long range damage to lead to my neuropathy, the rays certainly led to Marie Curie’s death. Minute amounts can cause much damage eg. “ The Curies undertook the arduous task of separating out radium salt by differential crystallization. From a ton of pitchblende, one-tenth of a gram of radium chloride was separated in 1902 “

These “smart” meter emissions disturb the systems of insects & birds, that in turn pollinate our food & feed the birds.

Did you ever read Rachael Carson’s “Silent Spring”?

Thank you for answering my questions and acting on my behalf.

Respectfully, XXXXXXXXXX
