2016-09-25 The future with 5G

1)    Several of you asked me to let you know when the “Celebration of Life” for our friend Linda Ewart would be held. The information about it is below in Letters.

2)    A shortened video of a conference put on by the cell phone telecommunications industry, celebrating that 5G will be in everything, every appliance, even your socks. We must begin a campaign to have switches to be able to escape this invasion into our homes and our lives.  The full video is available if anyone is able to watch this hype.

3)    A member told me this a few weeks ago and before that, this concept never occurred to me. Today another member sent this, and it is important for all of us to keep in mind. If people think these are one and the same, no one will ever support the idea of excluding Wi-Fi from schools or public places.

Had a couple of conversations with people recently – them telling me they were on Wi-Fi and it turned out in each case they were not but to them Wi-Fi and internet are synonymous.  My guess, many do not grasp they are not synonymous and when in conversation with these people suggesting they turn off Wi-Fi they hear as “disconnect from the internet”.  My guess is as a matter of course we should assume far too many do not appreciate the distinction between the 2 and in conversation we should raise the distinction more and there may be a few more that can appreciate that life is possible without Wi-Fi.

Letters:

linda-ewart

I know that some of you may not be aware that our dear Linda passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with heart disease. She is sorely missed by all of her loving friends and family. I’m very sorry if you are hearing this for the first time but in spite of my sincerest effort to reach everyone, I may have missed some of you and for that I am very sorry. I also apologize for sending this through Linda’s computer. It was the only way I could access her contacts list.

Linda has been my dearest friend and I have been her accompanist for 46 years. Together we performed in many recitals.

You are all invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Linda on Saturday, October 29 from 2:00-4:00PM at Sharon United Church Chapel. Light refreshments will be served.

The address is:

21562 – Old Yale Rd.,
(on the roundabout at the corner of 216th and 48th Avenue)
Langley, BC
