2021-11-26 TIME SENSITIVE — Support proposal for Green Party Platform to include Precautionary Principle

1) Time Sensitive: ON SATURDAY: If you are a Green Party member, please read the letter below from Shelley Wright, and help get Lori Curran’s proposal re. the Precautionary Principle passed. Lori has worked very hard to get it to this point, and let’s help make the Canadian Green Party the first to have a platform that addresses the EMF/5G issue head on.

2) Many of our allies have banned Huawei from participating in the telecom industry in their countries, yet Canada seems to be turning a blind eye. Why? The men being held hostage have been released so what is the reason for allowing Huawei’s continued partnership with Telus (and perhaps other telecoms) in building the 5G grid? Huawei is so deeply embedded in both the infrastructure and our universities that it may be too late to salvage our data, privacy and security.

Tory MPs Call on Liberal Government to Ban Huawei From 5G Network

“Critics who are concerned about Huawei’s participation in Canada’s 5G network contend that it could give communist China access to a range of digital information, including the habits and whereabouts of Canadians using internet-connected devices.

These concerns stem from the fact that China’s National Intelligence Law demands that Chinese organizations and citizens support, assist and cooperate with state intelligence work with the result that Chinese security agencies could force private companies to provide users’ personal information.

In October, Nanos Research released a poll showing that 76 percent of Canadians oppose Huawei’s participation in the country’s 5G network—a sharp increase from 2019 when 53 percent of respondents supported banning the Chinese company.”

3) Not long ago, plans were to make an area of Toronto an example of a “smart city”, but when some of those involved in the project learned that a prime goal was surveillance they quit. One key person was former Ontario Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian.

Is the Smart City dream becoming a surveillance nightmare?

“In today’s Big Story podcast, a few years ago, the world was dotted with proposals for utopian Smart Cities, like Toronto’s Sidewalk Labs. One by one, those ambitious dreams were scaled down or, in the case of Toronto, cancelled altogether. But the technology behind them hasn’t gone away—it’s still being adopted in cities around the world. Only instead of being a part of a complex urban renewal project aimed at sustainability, it’s mostly used for surveillance, by police and other organizations.”

Subject: Time Sensitive – Green Party of Canada Members – Voting For An Important Safe Tech Proposal

Hello C4ST Members & Friends of Green Party Members!

If you are a Green Party of Canada member there is the opportunity to vote on this safe tech proposal (presented by one of our C4ST members), this Saturday.

Proposal:

November 2021 GPC Policy Convention Proposal on FTTP

Advocate for a National Internet Access Strategy that Prioritizes Environmental and Human Health

Français

Code

G21-P028

Proposal Type

Policy

Submitter Name

Lori Curran

Proposal

The GPC advocates for a Canada-wide, comprehensive, coordinated, high speed, broadband internet access strategy that uses fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) technologies whenever possible, instead of wireless technologies, including 5G; and adopts the ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) principle for wireless radiation exposures.

Objective

To apply the Precautionary Principle regarding ubiquitous non-natural electromagnetic radiation (nn-EMR) such as radiofrequency radiation from cell tower network antennas, microcells (including 5G small antennas), smart meters, WiFi, and satellites by using wired technologies whenever possible. Science demonstrates that nn-EMR below current safety guidelines can harm human health and wildlife.

Benefit

Minimizing wireless radiation would reduce risk to human and environmental health. Wired fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connections are more safe, resilient, reliable, and secure than wireless technologies. Fibre is more energy efficient and long-lasting and does not interfere with weather forecasting or astronomy research.

Supporting Comments from Submitter

The Green Party of California recently called for their government representatives to move forward with safer alternatives to 5G and reduce exposures as per the ALARA principle.  http://cagreens.org/green-party-california-statement-5g-wireless-technology-environmental-oversight

European green parties are speaking out about implications of excessive wireless technology for climate change and other concerns. https://venturebeat.com/2020/10/12/frances-5g-plans-fuel-divisions-over-environmental-and-economic-impact/

Green party members of the European Parliament recently outlined conflicts of interest in two organizations that Health Canada considers authorities for setting its radiofrequency exposure guidelines. https://klaus-buchner.eu/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/ICNIRP-report-FINAL-19-JUNE-2020.pdf

Urgent Appeal to the Government of Canada to Suspend the 5G Rollout and to Choose Safe and Reliable Fiber Connections – supported by 24 Canadian grassroots organizations, signed by more than 20,000 Canadians, and substantiated with high quality scientific studies. http://c4st.org/5Gappeal/

Relation to Existing Policies

Rescind and replace G12-P01, Universal Broadband Internet Access.

Here is the message from Lori:

Lori Curran would like Green Party members to vote for her safe tech motion at the Green Party event this weekend. This is a message from Lori: Hi Fellow C4ST Members, If at all possible please support “our policy proposal to the Green Party of Canada”, this Saturday! If you are a GPC member, please register to attend the Virtual Convention (this weekend, see below the link to do so). Please send this to any GPC members that you may know of, also. See the attached document to read what our policy proposal is. The way I understand it, our proposal has been “green lit” through an online membership vote (it got almost 74% green votes!). I believe the next step toward this proposal becoming official Green Party of Canada Policy is for it to pass at the Virtual Convention this weekend (so please support if you can….register for the Convention, attend virtually, and vote for the bundle that our policy is in). I have been told that I will have 30 seconds to speak on why our proposal should remain in the “green lit bundle” that it is in and I am guessing that it will be a “bundle vote”. Thanks so much, Lori (see below)

Vote anregister here!
