2021-05-12 Pipeline attack/cyber vulnerabilities

1) Cybersecurity experts have warned that wireless devices and connections to the internet are extremely vulnerable. More and more of our critical infrastructure is becoming part of the internet of things and, according to industry, the goal is for just about everything to be inter-connected, increasing the vulnerabilities. The cyberattack on the pipeline in the US was just the most recent demonstration of how vulnerable critical systems are.

Colonial Pipeline’s Ransomware Attack Sparks Emergency Declaration

“The Colonial Pipeline vulnerabilities exposed to the internet, including open services on standard ports open to the internet, over the past few months are more than enticing for criminal groups indiscriminately scanning the internet. In light of the news that ransomware was the attack vector of choice, this is more than likely a monetarily motivated effort, likely excluding nation-state adversaries.”

2) Another article by Patricie Burke. Many have compared the tobacco industry to the telecoms — they both have continued to sell products long after they knew they were dangerous, often thanks to their own studies. And what is even more similar is that the same bent scientist, Peter Valberg, testifies as an expert on both topics. RF is the tobacco of the 21st century.

“In short, [the companies] have marketed and sold their lethal product with zeal, with deception, with a single-minded focus on their financial success, and without regard for the human tragedy or social costs that success exacted,” Kessler wrote in United States of America v. Philip Morris USA.

(Judge) Kessler noted that the Justice Department, in a racketeering lawsuit, had presented “overwhelming evidence” of a conspiracy to defraud the public. She ordered the companies to take a number of actions, including ceasing to claim there was such a thing as a low-tar cigarette that reduced the risk of disease. The evidence showed this simply was not true. Yet in about a dozen pending lawsuits, Philip Morris continues to do just that. It routinely argues that the nation’s top-selling cigarette, once known as Marlboro Lights and now called Marlboro Gold, reduces the risk of cancer.”

3) A newsletter from Stop 5G International with some very interesting articles (one in particular is about the military use of 5G) plus a reminder of the next Global Protest Day, giving us lots of time to plan how we can participate to increase awareness in our communities.
