We all know full well how important it is to have access to excellent internet service. Many areas of Canada do not have it, so telecoms are promising that 5G grids will satisfy that need. But the public is not told that 5G has never been shown to be safe. In fact, the opposite is true — the tests that have been done show harm, some of it potentially very serious. The public is not told that 5G will invade their privacy, gathering data from “smart” devices that will be sent wirelessly through the Internet of Things. The public isn’t told that wireless technology is easily hacked and uses far more energy than wired.
Over the last several decades, the increase in electromagnetic radiation to which we are exposed without choice has increased exponentially. 5G, with microcells outside our homes and satellites above our homes, will mean no place will be radiation-free.
Neither is the public told that there is a safer, faster, more secure, more energy-efficient, radiation-free option: fiber optic networks.
It’s time we joined together across Canada and raised our voices to say “NO” to 5G. It’s time we told our politicians that we are not guinea pigs. And now we all have a chance to say NO.
Today the culmination of the efforts of many people resulted in the launch of a National Appeal — the first of its kind in Canada. 24 organizations from across Canada, including the Coalition, have joined together to urge the Federal Government to do what many experts and individual citizens have been asking: to stop the rollout of 5G until it is proven to be safe and to promote and support a safer, more secure and private, and more cost effective means of providing excellent internet access — fiber optic networks directly into the home.
This morning a press release was sent to approximately 400 BC media outlets and many other outlets across Canada.

Twenty-Four Canadian Groups Say: Suspend 5G Until Proven Safe Appeal to the Government of Canada “Look Before We Leap”
“Ottawa: Scientists and citizens groups from across Canada, including several from British Columbia, are launching an Urgent Appeal demanding the right to say “No” to 5G in their neighbourhoods. Twenty-four Canadian groups are banding together and calling for a national moratorium on the roll out of 5G until questions about its human health effects are resolved.
“This has nothing to do with Covid-19. All groups launching this Appeal condemn acts of violence such as burning antenna towers,” said one of the organizers. “The Parliamentary Health Committee has been investigating the negative health impacts of cell phones, cell towers and Wi-Fi for over a decade. So far the only assurance that it’s safe comes from the wireless companies profiting from it, but scientists disagree.”
The Appeal is also requesting that Health Canada conduct a comprehensive and rigorous assessment of the health effects of radiofrequency radiation….
The Appeal requests that Ottawa give local governments and their citizens proper notification and grant them a decisive say over the placement of cell towers and microcell antennas.”
Please join your voice with mine and others who have signed the Appeal at: http://c4st.org/5Gappeal/
And please share this with friends and family. It takes a lot of voices to get attention in Ottawa. Now is a real chance to help make Canada a safer place for us, our families and for those who follow us.
I am asking you for another favor. Many editors who received our press release may not have paid much attention to it because it didn’t come from one of their readers. I have written a sample letter (below) that you can copy and paste, change or ignore to write your own. Please take a few of minutes and send this to your local newspapers, TV and radio stations — and put it on your facebook page or blog. The more people who sign the Appeal, the better chance we will have that our elected leaders will pay attention.
Everyone wants faster access to the internet, and recent events have shown us how important dependable, high-speed internet is. Yet many parts of BC do not have it. The telecoms are promising a brand new, untested wireless technology, 5G, and are laying the groundwork for the grid in the larger centres. As scientists and experts from around the world warn about associated risks to both health and privacy, people are becoming concerned, and rightly so.
Better options to another wireless network are available. One is a fiber optic cable network that goes into the home and connects via cable to provide internet access. Fiber optic cable provides far faster service (up to 20 times faster), can handle more data, does not emit radiation and is far more protective of personal information. In addition, wired internet uses far less energy than does wireless. Some communities in BC like Denman, Hornby, and Salt Spring Islands and the Slocan Valley already are exploring how to create such a fiber network.
Meanwhile, concerns raised by individuals are going unheard by industry and the government agencies responsible for protecting us, and 5G continues being rolled out. The health and security of our families and theirs are being put at risk.
Consequently, on May 14, twenty-four organizations from across Canada launched a unified urgent Appeal to the federal government to suspend the 5G rollout until it is proven to be safe and to invest in fiber optics. The Appeal can be read at: https://www.appel5gappeal.ca/
