2020-01-02 Some plans for Jan. 25 Ban 5G Day

1)  I hope that many of you are planning on participating in the International Day to Stop 5G. Demonstrations, rallies, meetings, etc. can raise awareness, even if it results “only” in people asking “What is 5G?”. Some events need a large showing to be noticed, and this time of year it is hard to get a large group outside. If you could get 15-20 people along a major road, holding photos and signs, that would get attention. Fewer, say fewer than 12, is ineffective, IMHO.

[scroll down to “Resources” https://stop5ginternational.org/5g-protest-day/]

One thing a small group of us first did, when trying to alert people to smeters, was to hang a sign from a pedestrian walkway over a well-traveled street or highway. The sign was a white tarp we bought at Home Depot. It had grommets through which we put ropes or bungee cords that were fastened to the railing. On the white tarp we painted a short message (drivers have only a few seconds to read this) in large red letters painted with acrylic paint available at the Dollar Store. This tarp and the signs can be used over and over again at other Ban 5G days.

Behind us, on the walkway, a few people walked with signs. This can be very effective with just a few people, especially during the busy time of day for traffic.

We are planning on doing one overpass along Hwy 1/Douglas Street, and hopefully others in Victoria will consider doing something in other parts of the city. Before anything else, we must figure out the message, assuming the vast majority of people have no idea what 5G is. Perhaps some of the major 5G sites will have some ideas.

If you would like to join us on Jan. 25, let me know. If you have plans in your community, please let me know so I can share. We must become more active in this long process of educating people.

2)  South Korea was one of the first countries to implement 5G and many living there have bought and use 5G devices. According to this article, after almost one year, 5G is far from living up to its promises and many believe that it will be many years before it does. Let’s hope we stop it before it can.

5G underwhelms in its first big test in South Korea

“Now eight months in, Mr Jang, a 30-year-old tech company worker, has a chilling review for the next-generation technology: 5G hasn’t lived up to the hype.

“I don’t feel the difference,” said Mr Jang, who uses a 5G-enabled Samsung Electronics handset. On many days, he said, he switches off his 5G service altogether because his connection often drops as his phone pingpongs between 5G and the existing 4G LTE network.

For most of 2019, South Korea was home to the vast majority of the world’s 5G users, offering the broadest lessons in what the next-generation network has to offer. Though it is still early in the global rollout, 5G service in South Korea has proved more of a future promise than a technological breakthrough.”

3)   A very interesting email from Hawaii where it sounds as if the telecom Verizon is trying to get commitments for future cell towers that could hold anything and everything, wide open agreement, “a power grab”. We should remain alert in case telecoms try to do this here. Email is below in “Letters“.

4)   A member has asked me to find out if anyone else has had the same unusual thing happen as he has. If you have, please respond to citizensforsafertech@shaw.ca with “batteries” on the subject line.

“Something new – have a battery operated clock in my shop, constantly stopping every 2 or 3 days. Recharged batteries, installed new batteries, same thing. It is in my shop on the opposite wall as the meter, but directly in line with the meter. Moved to workbench 5 days ago, still going. Going to give it another week then am going to install it on the inside of the wall directly where the back of the smeter is on the outside and see what happens. Anyone else heard of this happening?”

Subject: [Big Island] 150′ Cell Tower Coming. Act NOW to Stop it! Deadline 1-3-20

This just in for Planning Commission meeting January 8th.

Verizon wants to extend a permit on agricultural land in HPP (Hawaiian Paradise Park) to construct a 150′ cell tower in the next 5 years.

This is right next to a child day care center and should never have been allowed!

It looks like a power grab on the part of Verizon. They don’t really need the tower according to their coverage map. They have the permit but haven’t built the tower and seek to extend their timeframe. 5 years is a big commitment! This next 5 years will see many changes.

The use permit has already been issued and they are asking for an amendment and extension to complete the facility. It is our chance to oppose the extension!

We need everyone possible to send in testimony or, better yet, show up at the meeting January 8 to testify and object to the extension.

What: Meeting of the HI County Planning Commission
When: 9 a.m., Wednesday, January 8
Where: County of Hawaii, Aupuni Center Conference Room, 101 Pauahi Street, Hilo

Subject line: Oppose Verizon Cell Tower Permit Extension

Sample Testimony for written or oral comments:

Aloha Honorable Planning Commission Chair and Commission Members,

I oppose the 5 year extension requested by Verizon for their 150′ cell tower in what seems to be a strategic acquisition of land. Their coverage map shows this area already has reception. They had a chance to build the tower but didn’t. Clearly, they don’t need it and neither do we.

This cell tower would be right next to a preschool, Tutu and Me, which serves the community. Children are most vulnerable to the harmful effects of wireless radiation. The science is conclusive, there are harmful biological effects of wireless radiation exposure levels that are many thousands of times lower than the current allowable limits. – https://scientists4wiredtech.com/what-are-4g-5g/science/

Please see – https://scientists4wiredtech.com/sebastopol/#death which documents the deaths and illnesses of over a dozen people from a nearby cell tower.

We must work one step at a time and not project too far into the future to ensure the safe and practical use of viable agricultural land. No amount of “faster downloads” could justify deaths and illnesses of the very people you are here to serve. Please deny the permit extension and the amendment and withdraw the original permit for this ill advised cell tower.
